Chairman of the Board, Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)
Mr Clarke held senior energy policy roles in the Australian Public Service from 2003 to 2013, including as Secretary of the Department of Resources and Energy. He is currently the non-executive Chairman of the Board of AEMO (Australia’s independent energy system and market operator) and a Director on the Boards of CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency) and NBNCo (the national broadband network company).
Mr Clarke’s energy policy work included leadership roles in development of the national electricity and gas laws and rules, international energy engagement, clean energy technology programs, and climate change. He also helped establish the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute, and was Australia’s member on the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency.
Mr Clarke was awarded the Order of Australia in 2016 for distinguished service to public administration, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
